Hello.
The project is finished now.
I designed a service and product called PO Box that moves around rural villages where Post Offices have been closed down. It’s about bringing the heart back to the village of communities. The box is moved around by the existing infrastructure of the Royal Mail van. They move it in the morning on their first run leaving it in a village for a day (or in other villages it could be moved around differently relevant to their service and geography) and on the return journey picks up any parcels and mail to be taken to the sorting office.
The box is easy to use and run by local volunteers who receive training and incentives. It is versatile so can be run in many locations but primarily inside village halls where BT have fitted a wireless connection so the box can connect to a network that allows the operator to download forms and carry out transactions.
By placing it inside a village hall, the community now, once again, have a central hub to meet again, restoring the village heart. The wireless network and central hub also provides opportunities for locals to use.
